Privacy Policy

At Placid Health Canada, Inc. ("Placid"), we care about your privacy.  A lot.

We appreciate and respect the trust you give us in allowing us to handle your data.  We have tried to make this page as simple as possible but understand if you have additional questions. Please contact us at privacy@placid.health - we are happy to answer any questions you may have.

What is my Personal Data and What Types of Personal Data Does Placid Collect?

Personal Data is any information about you that can be used to uniquely identify you, alone or in combination with other data.  This includes your name, location, date of birth, and address.  Placid doesn’t collect your name or date of birth, these are stored locally on your app. If you enable location sharing to use the Environmental Health tracker, Placid will store your location. Placid also stores anonymized logs of your access to the system for security purposes only.

What is Personal/Protected Health Information (PHI)?

Personal or protected health information is any information that is generated by your medical care such as test results, diagnosis, and medications.

Is Placid a Medical Care Provider?

No. Placid doesn’t provide any health advice or medical care. Placid provides tools for you to aggregate, analyze and understand your health data.

Is Placid Subject to HIPPA or PHIPA?

No. The United States Health Insurance Portability and Privacy Act (HIPPA) and Ontario’s Personal Health Information Protection Act (PHIPA) only apply to medical care providers and similar entities. However, to try to keep your data safe, Placid uses some of the same safeguards required for HIPPA compliance, including

  • Keyword-Based User Identification
  • Database Encryption (“at rest” encryption)
  • Encryption of Data Transmitted and from the Database (“in transit”) encryption
  • Access Logs
  • Security Audits

Unfortunately, some of these features make the app bigger and slower than we would like.  But, it is better to be safe than sorry.

Does Placid Sell or Share My Personal Data?

No.  Placid does not share your Personal Data with any third-party.  Our business model is transparent - we only make money from your subscription fees and any tests you purchase through affiliate links. If we ever change our business model, we will only share your Personal Data if you opt in to allow sharing.

How Do I Share My Personal Data Using Placid?

We try to make it so you can’t do this. Our system is completely anonymized. Your auto-generated username is used to uniquely identify you in the Community tabs when you interact with other users.

That said, we can’t stop you from sharing your Personal Data in the message board and other features of the system that allow you to communicate with other users. The message board is publicly available and, therefore, we caution you against posting any of your Personal Data on it.  If you do post Personal Data on the message board and later want to delete it, we will provide you the ability to do so.

How Does Placid Use My Personal Data?

Placid uses your Personal Data to provide you with the services in the application and may use it to process your payments for the application. For security purposes, Placid uses your anonymous keyword identifier to store logs of your access to the Placid application.

What Are My Rights to My Personal Data?
